Community High School Top Scholars

Community High School will hold its 2013 graduation ceremonies Tuesday, June 4, 7 p.m. at University of Michigan's Horace H. Rackham Auditorium. The class includes 121 graduates.
Abigail Kleinheksel
Parents: Michael and Christine Kleinheksel
Activities and Awards: Abby was a Varsity rower for four years, and a member of the First United Methodist Church youth group, Co-Editor of The Communicator, winning five personal state journalism awards. She was also active in the Ecology Club, Community High Athletic Tribe (CHAT) and the National Honor Society.
Plans After Graduation: Abby will attend the University of Michigan School of Engineering.
Sara Leon
Parent: Marion Leon
Activities and Awards: Sara was Treasurer of Forum Council, a LEADScholar, a National Honor Society member, National Hispanic Scholar, Michigan Competitive Scholar, member of Model UN and a happy barista.
Plans After Graduation: Sara plans to attend the Residential College at the University of Michigan.
Hank (Harald) Miller
Parents: Kathleen Koehler and William Miller
Activities and Awards: Hank was a member of NHS and a National Merit Finalist. He was a four-year member of the Pioneer Theater Guild, where he played roles as the Phantom of the Opera and Tatch in Ragtime. Hank was a top five-time Finalist in Future Stars for three years, closed Break’in Curfew with the Pioneer Jazz combo and was a Community High Jazz Member. He worked as a madrich (teacher) at Beth Israel Religious School.
Plans After Graduation: Hank plans to study at Oberlin College.
Kelsey Moran
Parents: Robert Moran and Patricia Andreski
Activities and Awards: Kelsey was a National Merit Finalist, a member of the National Honor Society and an AAPS Scholar Athlete throughout high school. She played varsity water polo and field hockey at Huron High School. Kelsey was the Vice President and Co-Founder of Women in Leadership at Community, coordinated the annual amenities drivewith SOS Community Services, math tutor, and participated in the ecology club. In addition, Kelsey was on the Youth Council of her church youth group and volunteered at Therapeutic Riding Inc. in Ann Arbor.
Plans After Graduation: Kelsey will be attending Wellesley College in the fall.
Eliza Stein
Parents: Lori Bennett and Steve Stein
Activities and Awards: Eliza was Co-Captain for Pioneer High’s State Championship Field Hockey Team and a four year varsity athlete. She served on Neutral Zone’s Board of Directors, and as Curator for Break’in Curfew and Live on Washington. She was Co-President of the CHS Forum Council, an Editor for the CHS Communicator and a winner of Future Stars.
Plans After Graduation: Eliza plans to compete and study at the University of Michigan.
Gabrielle Vuylsteke
Parents: Ed Vuylsteke and Kathy Ann Moilanen
Activities and Awards: Gabrielle was a member of the National Honor Society and was Publicity Secretary with Community Ensemble Theatre for four years. As a senior, her peers elected her as President of CET. Gabrielle served as Yearbook Editor, reached the second round of the Michigan Math Prize Contest and has been a finalist in several writing competitions. She participated in Model UN, tutored students in math and science and went on mission trips with her church. A local high-tech company selected her for a real-world engineering internship last summer.
Plans After Graduation: Gabrielle will be attending the University of Michigan's School of Engineering in the fall.
Acer Xu
Parents: Mengdun Chu and Zhauhui Xu
Activities and Awards: Acer was a member of the National Honor Society, National Merit Finalist, a Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He was a 4-year Varsity member and Captain of the Huron High Cross Country Team, a volunteer coach for King Elementary School’s Science Olympiad Team and taught English in rural Tibet.
Plans After Graduation: Acer will study Biology and Religious Studies at Yale University.
