Construction work starts Monday at Seventh and West Stadium in Ann Arbor

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Seventh Street at West Stadium Boulevard on Ann Arbor's west side will see construction work starting Monday, using federal stimulus and city street resurfacing millage dollars to fund the project.

The work will likely wrap up by Sept. 4, and drivers are advised to find an alternate route for the next six weeks.

City officials say the upcoming work is part of the West Stadium improvements project from Suffolk to Hutchins. A water main and sewer will be installed, and the Seventh Street intersection will be reconstructed with new curb, sidewalk and road pavement.

The work will require temporary closings of Seventh Street, alternating between the south side and north side, the city said.

The south side closure will be first, and that closure is expected to last two weeks. During that time, northbound Seventh Street will be closed at the intersection, and southbound Seventh traffic will be permitted to turn westbound only at West Stadium Boulevard. West Stadium Boulevard traffic will only be able to travel westbound across the intersection.

The north side closure will follow the south side closure and is expected to last four weeks. During that time, southbound Seventh Street will be closed at the intersection, and northbound Seventh Street traffic will be permitted to turn westbound only at West Stadium Boulevard. West Stadium traffic will only be able to travel westbound across the intersection.

Delays are expected, and motorists are advised to avoid the area. Traffic signs and other devices will be posted to notify and direct those near the construction zone.

I'm a little fuzzy, we get stimulus dollars to do this work, but the Stadium bridge didn't qualify? Our streets people didn't ask for it?

This explains why they stopped at a certain point rebuilding the sidewalks outside of Pioneer High School. Those sidewalks are long over due. More like 30 years over due. I am rather miffed they removed the trees that had been there for over 40 years. Now that was sad. They were there when I graduated from Pioneer. O well. Thanks for the update.

Great, now traffic will be headed into a construction or have to use Main street which is always crowded with traffic. Personally, I see nothing wrong with that intersection, couldn't that money have been used on another street in Ann Arbor that needs it more? Wouldn't it be nice if the city asked the residents what they thought before they screwed up another perfectly good piece of roadway/traffic pattern.

GREAT! Now more idiots will blow the stop signs on the side streets along Seventh and Stadium. A2 Police need to step up patrols here if they won't post "No Through Traffic" signs. It's beyond dangerous. I've observed too many near misses at the Hutchins and Snyder intersection. Scary.
