Correctional facility testing new siren Friday morning

By Cindy Heflin

The Woodland Center Correctional Facility near Whitmore Lake will be testing a new siren Friday morning.

The siren, which will be tested Friday at 9 a.m., can be used to warn residents and businesses about a threat to public safety, Hamburg Township police said in an alert sent to area residents.

The siren also could be used at times for training. In the event of an emergency use of the siren, staff at the center would contact local business and residents, and police will send out alerts.

The siren could be used for facility training mobilization, inspection of the siren or actual facility mobilization.

The facility is located along M-36 between Whitmore Lake and Lemen roads in southern Livingston County.

People who have questions or concerns about the siren can contact administrative assistant Darrell Monday at 734-449-3902.

Hope it works better than the one warning golfers about hazardous weather at the course by me. It was going off when we had the really cold weather recently and I don't think there were any golfer out there.

The next time you hear it, there may be an actual emergency.
