Should Detroit bid to be 2024 Summer Olympics host?
Detroit was one of 35 cities to receive a letter from the United States Olympic Committee to gauge interest in hosting the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. According to an MLive story, a Facebook page already has been created in support of a bid by the city.
Less than an hour away from downtown Detroit, Michigan Stadium and possibly the Crisler Center could see Olympic action if the city won the right to host the games.
Any bid by Detroit to be an Olympic city, if one materialized, would be a significant long shot. Both Detroit as well as the state of Michigan would have to invest a massive amount of money in the city in order to meet requirements, which include 45,000 hotel rooms, operations space for 15,000 media and broadcasters, and public transportation service to sporting venues.
