Crash on I-94 slows traffic heading into Ann Arbor

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Update: Both lanes were open as of noon.

Traffic heading into Ann Arbor on westbound I-94 is slowed due to a traffic crash that happened just after 11 a.m. Saturday.

Information on the collision - which possibly involves more than two vehicles - was not immediately available.

However, police said westbound I-94 is down to one lane while officials respond to the crash between South State and US-23.

As a result, traffic - including many vehicles heading into town for today's University of Michigan football game - is delayed.

Never a surprise when there is a crash there. It's a poorly constructed entry/exit pattern at that intersection and cars that have just begun to accelerate to merge into the traffic flow are forced in too fast at the same time as other cars must cross over in front of them in order to exit. But now that we are stuck with it, it would take some major reconstruction to fix it. Quite a problem!

The real problem is the people still talking on their phones, playing with their radios and just plain in too big a hurry; Add to that all the new students that just learned to drive last year and it's a real mess!
