Crash involving semi, pickup closes U.S. 23 at Michigan Avenue
Update: The highway was reopened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Editor's note: The sheriff's office now says northbound U.S. 23 is shut down, not southbound.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is advising motorists to avoid the area of northbound U.S. 23 and Michigan Avenue for the next two hours because of a crash.
A county dispatcher said the first call for the crash, which involved a semi-truck and a pickup, came in around 7 p.m. Northbound U.S. 23 was closed. The crash occurred south of Michigan Avenue.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash or whether there were any injuries.
A Nixle alert from the county said the Michigan State Police were on scene.
Reports indicated traffic was backed up extensively.
Update 8:57 p.m.: Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance said a patient in stable condition was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital. An unstable patient was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor.
