Crashes plague morning commute in Ann Arbor area
The Thursday morning commute is shaping up as a challenging one for Ann Arbor area motorists.
After a crash that backed up traffic on M-14 east of Ann Arbor shortly after 6:30 a.m., other crashes were reported on Ann Arbor-area freeways.
At 7:40 a.m., emergency personnel were dealing with crashes on westbound M-14 east of Whitmore Lake Road and southbound U.S. 23 south of North Territorial Road.
A car was in the median on M-14, a dispatcher with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said. The crash on U.S. 23 was reported to be on the shoulder.
Further information about the crashes was not immediately available.

If you had not written WESTBOUND M-14 east of Whitmore Lake Road, a lot of us would have assumed the crash took place in the EASTBOUND lanes, right near the hairpin exit of Barton Drive. I may have heard this accident referred to last night on WAAM; the exit was referred to as Exit 3, which takes one to North Main Street.

Cindy, to clarify....I am reading the email headline version AnnArbor.com sends every morning. To see content, I have to go online.

Good point Gretta. Actually, we usually keep these kinds of crash briefs out of the morning emailed newsletter to avoid this kind of confusion. This one inadvertently slipped in.

Good morning, Cindy. It would be helpful if the headline indicated the day. I am reading this Friday morning and assume that the information applies now, not twenty-four hours ago. The head could read "Crashes plague Thursday am commute." We can assume they are in the Ann Arbor area (not Washington DC or Mexico City) but we can't assume what day you are writing about. Since this appears online and the normal column conventions don't need to apply, you could run wild with headlines: you needn't make them artificially terse. IMO.

"I don't understand. I don't have to leave more space between the vehicle in front of me just because it's raining. The current 5 feet of space I leave is JUST FINE."
