Pittsfield Township police seek victims of car break-ins

Pittsfield Township police arrested an individual last week believed to be responsible for a series of overnight auto break-ins.

Officials are now asking anyone missing items from their vehicles to contact them to file a police report and claim the stolen items.

A man told police his roommate assaulted him, slashed the rear tire of his Dodge Stratus and wrote a curse word on the driver's side door after he lost in a video game, Ypsilanti police say.

Dexter area man accused of repeatedly exposing himself to young girls goes on trial

Two young girls say a 66-year-old Dexter Township man repeatedly exposed himself to them, showed one of the girls a pornographic movie and attempted to force one of the girls to touch him.

The girls, ages 8 and 9, testified today when the criminal trial got under way for Dennis Schwartzenberger. Schwartzenberger is charged with five counts of aggravated indecent exposure, three counts of accosting children for immoral purposes and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13.

Former police car stolen on Roundtree Boulevard in Ypsilanti Township

A car was stolen Saturday in the 2900 block of Roundtree Boulevard in Ypsilanti Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

The white four-door 1996 Chevrolet Caprice was reported stolen about 4:15 p.m., according to a sheriff's department e-mail alert.

Ypsilanti Township resident Bruce Lee's attempted murder trial delayed

An Ypsilanti Township man who received a $1.375 million settlement from Washtenaw County after a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies in 2006 will go on trial for attempted murder in an unrelated case in May.

Bruce Lee, 35, was scheduled to go on trial last week, but his attorneys requested it be delayed while they continue to research the prosecutor’s evidence, court records show.

Ypsilanti man accused of beating dog with tire iron convicted of animal cruelty

An Ypsilanti man accused of attacking his girlfriend and beating her dog with a tire iron has entered into a plea deal with prosecutors.

Eric Rutley, 29, pleaded no contest to one count of animal cruelty and pleaded guilty to marijuana possession during a pre-trial hearing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court, records show.

Ypsilanti man charged with sexually assaulting teenager in Ann Arbor

A 25-year-old Ypsilanti man who surrendered to police Saturday was arraigned today on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.

Woodrow Roosevelt Williams II, 25, is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at an Ann Arbor hotel last week. He was arraigned this morning and is being held on $25,000 cash bond, Ann Arbor Det. Bill Stanford said.

Five treated for smoke inhalation following southeast Ann Arbor house fire

Five people, including three children, were treated for smoke inhalation following a fire Saturday afternoon.

The Ann Arbor Fire Department responded to the fire at 2175 Hemlock Drive in Ann Arbor to find a mattress on fire in the front yard and a fire in the bedroom.

Missing 14-year-old girl found safe; Ann Arbor police say 2 men facing charges

An exhaustive search for a missing 14-year-old girl ended today when Selena Leroux Riggins walked into the Eastern Michigan University Department of Public Safety and said, “Here I am,” police say.

Two men believed to be with Riggins for part of the week have been arrested. One was criminally charged today, and the other is jailed pending charges.

Missing 14-year-old found this afternoon, Ann Arbor police say

A 14-year-old girl missing since Thursday was found this afternoon, Ann Arbor police said.

Detectives confirmed at 1:40 p.m. that Selena Leroux Riggins was located alive and unharmed. Police had been searching for Riggins since Thursday, and an Amber Alert was issued Friday.

A 14-year-old girl last seen in Ypsilanti on Thursday remains missing this morning, Ann Arbor police said.

Police also confirmed the case is tied to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in an Ann Arbor hotel on Wednesday evening.

Selena Leroux Riggins is believed to be with Woodrow Roosevelt Williams II. An Amber Alert was issued Friday.

  • Revised summary -- As told to the Ann Arbor Police, a student was walking along the south side of Monroe Street when an unknown male came from behind him and struck him on the left side of his head with a baseball bat. The student fell and the unknown male demanded the student's backpack. When the student hesitated, the male struck the student with the bat several times before he grabbed the backpack, jumped into the backseat of a nearby red sedan and fled.

An unknown male exited the passenger side of the vehicle with a baseball bat and demanded the student's backpack. When the student hesitated, the male struck the student in the back of the head with the bat before grabbing the backpack, jumping into the car and fleeing.
