19-year-old Ann Arbor man returns home to find house burglarized

By Heather Lockwood

Ann Arbor police are investigating a burglary in the 800 block of East University Avenue that occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Thursday.

A 19-year-old man returned to his house, where he lives with two other men, and found it had been broken into. His guitar and a watch were stolen, said Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush.

Bush said police were unable to find any signs of forced entry on the exterior of the house, but inside the house, several locked bedroom doors were kicked open, and items were missing from at least one of the bedrooms.

Police are waiting to hear from the two other residents about anything else that may have been stolen, Bush said.

No further details were immediately available.

This kind of break-in is normal for this area off-campus during the winter break. Crooks know that most residents are out of town and it is easy pickings. I once returned to my apartment after break to find the sliding glass window smashed. From the inside. Turns out it was my roomate's drunk friend and not a pistol-packing rapscallion of the night.

Lots of home invasions and burglaries in A2 and Ypsi. Glad to see that A2 dot com is doing their job in reporting, but it certainly seems to be an increase in this kind of thuggery. How about some comparative statistics, for example, comparing burglaries, robberies, assaults, etc. by month to the same time last year? Are these data compiled somewhere else on A2 dot com?

I think A2.com is trying to allude to the fact that he was a young adult aka. perhaps even a student, sharing a flat with other (potentially) irresponsible men.

Why is the age of the resident remotely relevant?
