Anton Brooks, of Ypsilanti, was charged Tuesday with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearms possession and a felony firearms charge, according to court records. Sgt. Geoffrey Fox, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed Wednesday Brooks is suspected of firing the gun in the May 30 shooting on Nottingham Drive.
The shooting was the result of an on-going feud between Brooks and the victim, deputies said.
Sheriff's office officials said Brooks and the other man were having a verbal disagreement at a home when Brooks pulled out a gun and fired. Deputies went to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at 11 p.m. Wednesday after being notified of the man's injuries by hospital personnel before going to the area of the shooting.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Derrick Jackson said the Superior Township shooting was linked to a different shooting in the West Willow neighborhood of Ypsilanti Township the night before. No charges have been filed for that shooting.
Brooks is expected back in court for a preliminary exam at 8:30 a.m. June 12, according to court records. He’s also been charged with third-degree fleeing a police officer and unlawfully driving away an automobile for a Nov. 28 incident, records show.
If convicted in the Superior Township shooting, Brooks faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Deputies said Brooks was arrested without incident on Monday. He did not have the gun on his person when he was arrested, Fox said.
He has numerous juvenile cases and is currently on probation for two adult criminal convictions for possession of less than 25 grams of cocaine, according to state records.
The 19-year-old Ypsilanti man shot in the jaw in Superior Township is in stable condition, according to deputies.

Three + strikes, you're out! Judge, NO bond for this (alleged) repeat offender. I promise he'll resolve all of his disputes better in prison.

The sequence of events is confusing. The shooting took place Wednesday, May 30, and the sheriff's went "to the area of the shooting" sometime after 11 p.m. that day. The arraignment occurred five days later, on June 5, and among the charges was felony possession of a firearm. Did the alleged shooter hang on to the gun for five days, or when did the arrest itself occur sooner?

The alleged shooter would have had possession of the firearm during the committing of the first crime. Therefore, it's felony possession of a firearm, because it's against the law to have a gun while committing a crime.

"Anton Brooks was charged Tuesday with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder..." Wait, wouldn't it both be intent to murder?

Shooting them in the face might be a clue...

It's very difficult to prove that someone fully intended to murder another person, versus proving that they intended to harm them.
