Man and woman arrested following fights at Weber's

By Kyle Feldscher

Two people were arrested early Sunday morning following fights at Weber’s Hotel and Restaurant in Ann Arbor, including one woman who threw glassware at other patrons.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police responded at 12:02 a.m. Sunday to the restaurant, 3050 Jackson Road, after the fights were reported.

Bush said a 23-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested after fighting with another man. A 64-year-old man who worked security at the restaurant was punched in the face as he tried to break up the fight.

In addition to the security manager, several other patrons stepped in to help stop the fight. Bush said the melee began because one man was making comments about the other’s girlfriend.

After that brawl wrapped up, a second fight started between two women at the bar. One of the women threw glassware at other people at the bar before restaurant staff stepped in to stop the fight.

Bush said a 22-year-old woman from New Mexico was arrested in that incident. No one required medical treatment, Bush said.

New Mexico is not a surprise. Obama's suit against Arizona has led to an influx of violence from Mexico thru Arizona and into New Mexico. If only Arizona had been left alone by Barack, none of this would have happened.

We see stories like this every weekend. The individuals do need to have field sobriety tests done, even if they're not driving, and the establishments do need to be fined if they're serving alcohol to intoxicated patrons.

That's kinda the point. I mean, technically drinking ONE alcoholic beverage makes you intoxicated. So are you suggesting that all bars now only serve ONE drink to everyone? They should cut people off when they start to visible act/look intoxicated. A cab should be called/family member. I think it is a good idea to take everyone's blood alcohol level before they leave the bar.

If they fined every establishment that has been drinking their would be no places left open.

Kyle and annaribor.co: Get On This Case! Contact the LCC in Lansing! Find Out if the employees have successfully completed the Legislatively mandated training? Find Out if AAPD did a BAC test on on the perps. This may be a Festering Sore for Innocent Drivers near the location.

Weber's has the best happy hour in town, but don't tell anyone. We'd like to keep it to ourselves. Easy to get out of there before the young rowdies get there.

Certainly the Liquor Control Commission should examine their records in Lansing as to whether the bartenders and barmaids have completed the training in serving alcohol, as mandated by state law. Weber's is surrounded on all 4 sides by a Parking Lot. Intoxicated people engage in the behavior that occurred last night. It is illegal for an LCC Class C licensee to serve alcohol to a visibly intoxicated patron. I also wonder if AAPD did a BAC test on the persons arrested? This is a much more serious occurrence than some of the posters have made of it. This is nothing to joke about.

There seems to be such a rowdy crowd at Weber's lately it may be only a matter of time before they start flailing away with their crutches and walkers. For the close-in work, unsheathed knitting needles. Does AAPD have access to some kind of armored vehicle, should the worst come to pass?

I never thought I would see "bar brawl" and Webers in the same story. Maybe that is why their security detail is old enough to collect social security. And lest anybody think I'm bagging on "old people" I'm not. I'll be 61 in a few weeks myself.

I am even older than you, and I agree. Weber's always had such a dignified reputation. Maybe the bar tender is not cutting people off soon enough. I think that should be part of the investigation whenever there is a bar fight anywhere.

Craig, Webers is a great place for happy hour every weekday. Free food and great ddrink prices and a nice atmosphere in The Habitat. That crowd definitely isn't the brawling type.

guess I missed that one. I haven't been to Webers in 5-6 years or more and was never a regular. Have things changed or was I "misinformed" about what i perceived to be a "genteel" clientele?

Some people just shouldn't drink alcohol. I hope the security man is okay. And I'm not one for lawsuits but I hope the security man sues the punk who hit him. Gee, pick on someone your own age.

Craig, it's not easy to find a job when you are older....and you DO still need to eat and pay your bills. There aren't many places who will hire someone at that age. As manager of security, he may not normally be dealing with this type of assault and may manage the guards normally. Who knows? It's not appropriate to hit anyone in the face at any age.

While the violence is inexcusable and should be prosecuted, if one is too old to be 'picked on,' security guard in a bar is probably not a wise career choice.
