2 incidents of bike theft overnight appear to be unrelated

By Cole Bertsos

Two separate incidents of bike theft were reported Saturday morning in Ypsilanti, according to the Ypsilanti Police Department.

Police said the first instance happened on the 500 block of Congress Street when an unknown suspect allegedly took three bikes off a front porch some time overnight.

The second incident was on the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue where one bike was allegedly taken from a parking lot, also some time during the night.

Both cases have no suspects and the bikes have not been recovered as of Sunday morning.

Police said there is nothing that leads them to believe the incidents are related.

One bike, maybe someone just rode off on it. More than one bike, my guess is they had a truck. Especially if the motive was for scrap metal.

Well that's why I keep my bike inside in my living room! Lock it up!

It's absolutely ludicrous to think someone would steal both bikes at the same time. I mean, unless you are really skilled, you can only ride one at a time.

It's pretty easy to pull another bike along when riding one.

damn scrappers are grabbing anything not nailed down that has any metal content. I keep my gate locked just to keep them away. One jumped the fence to knock on my door to ask about scrap and he got to meet Fang.

Keep the gate locked to the fence too. They may take the whole gate !

Neither of those areas are places to leave a bike unlocked... Yes yes...you shouldn't have to lock your bike up in the first place...I agree....but that sentiment doesn't keep your bike from being stolen.
