A man and a woman were arrested after breaking into an abandoned Ann Arbor home Saturday evening while “looking for a place to hang out,” police said.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said officers were sent at 8:20 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of North Main Street for a report of a break-in. The intoxicated man had punched out a window in the back of the house and both intruders used a cement block to climb inside, she said.

Officers arrived at the home and were able to see the two people inside, Bush said. The two, 46-year-old woman from Grand Ledge and a 53-year-old Ann Arbor man, were ordered outside and arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering, she said.

One of the intruders told police that the two were just looking for a place to hang out, Bush said. They spent the rest of the night hanging out in a cell at the Ann Arbor Police Department before being released when they had sobered up, Bush said.

The case has been turned over to the department’s detective bureau for more investigation, Bush said. The intruders' names are not being released because they have not been formally charged with any crime.
