2 more catalytic converter thefts reported in Ypsilanti Township

By John Counts

Two catalytic converters were reported stolen in Ypsilanti Township Friday, police said. The reports followed several thefts of the devices last week.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office responded to residences in the 2800 block of Golfside Drive and 2900 block of Washtenaw Avenue for the missing automotive parts.

In both cases, the exhausts were cut with a sharp device, police said. No suspects are known at this time.

Thieves targeted several other cars in the area in the same way last week.

Yes but, it is illegal to do so as an auto shop. So unless you have the ability to weld you are out of luck!

We need to treat these sorts of crimes just as we did horse thievery back in the 1800's.

Is it true if you pull the catalytic converter and swap it out with a straight pipe you will get better performance and gas mileage?
