4 guns reported stolen from trunk of vehicle in Pittsfield Township

Police are investigating the theft of four guns from the back of a vehicle in Pittsfield Township.
Officers were called to a residence in the 2800 block of Dayton Drive at 8:01 p.m. July 24 to investigate the report, Pittsfield Township police said in a release issued Monday.
A Glock 23, Colt M-4 rifle, Beretta Tomcat 32 and a Remington shotgun were all reported stolen from the trunk of the vehicle. No other items were stolen, police said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety at (734) 822-6049 or the tip line at (734) 822-4958.

The guns stolen would be the stereotypical contents of a gun safe. Remington 870 is the most popular shotgun on the market. The Colt M4 is in the AR-15 category, the most popular rifle on the market. And Glock sells the most popular pistols (though a Glock 19 would have been more popular that the Glock 23). Sounds like someone moving their collection, rather then someone who routinely stores all this firepower in their trunk. That, or the contents of the trunk are also what many police officers now carry in their patrol car.

That combination of weapons sounds suspiciously like someone involved in law enforcement. Perhaps only at the rent-a-cop level, but hey... a hip side Glock, an ankle holster Tomcat 32, a Rem shotgun, backed up with a carbine? Not a standard set of "goin' huntin' with the boys" armament.

Go Navy.....it very well could be but it very well could not be.There are more of those guns in the hands of non law enforcement than there are in the hands of law enforcement

@tdw- Let's call a spade a spade, instead of beating around the bush here. The kit does in fact sound suspiciously like the sort a LEO would carry.

NSider....I know plenty of people who are not involved in law enforcement who have similar guns.People like to target shoot and whats called " plinking ".It has nothing to do with "goin'huntin'with the boys"

Two words: Inside job. As in, it's obvious the thief knew what to look for and where. For all the pooh-poohers and naysayers, locking a firearm in the trunk of one's car is a legally acceptable way of transporting firearms in the State of Michigan.

I believe the law is that the guns have to be in a locked case in the trunk (Sec. 231a). Doesn't sound like the handguns were in a locked case.
