The five people charged in the March beating of a Belleville man all took plea deals when they appeared in the Washtenaw County Trial Court last week, court records indicate.

They were accused of luring a Belleville man to an Ypsilanti Township apartment complex and then attacked him in the middle of the intersection of Textile and Bridge roads. The victim testified he was cut and needed 120 stitches and that cash and his watch was taken.

In all cases, the more severe charge - armed robbery - will be dismissed at sentencing. On Sept. 12, both Robert Freeman, Jr., 22, of Ypsilanti, and Kristen Bialoruski, 22, of Belleville, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and larceny from a person, according to court records.

The next day, Asia McGaughy, 20, of Ann Arbor, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and larceny from a person.

On Sept. 14, Katherine Bialoruski, 19, of Belleville, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and Gholam Ghanbari, 47, of Ypsilanti, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and an added charge of larceny from a person.

According to court records, Kristen Bialoruski told police she had $3,700 stolen from a safe in her Belleville home. Her 3-year-old child accused the Belleville man, a family friend, of taking the money.

The Belleville man testified at a preliminary examination on April 24 that the five were involved with coaxing him to an apartment complex on Textile and Bridge roads and beating him in that intersection.

“I didn’t know what was going to happen,” he said during his testimony. “Some big … dude just knocked me to the ground. I just heard him screaming something like, ‘I’m gonna cut you.’ And he got to slicing me all up.”

The man's cash, wallet and phone were taken. An ambulance was called and the Belleville man was taken to the hospital where he remained for a day and a half.

Kristen Bialoruski is set for sentencing on Oct. 10. Sentencing for Katherine Bialoruski, Freeman, Ghanbari and McGaughy is scheduled for Oct. 24. Judge Archie Brown will sentence the five.
