Ann Arbor man trying to sleep spies intruder in his bedroom

By John Counts

A 19-year-old Ann Arbor man scared off an intruder who entered his bedroom Wednesday morning, police said.

The man told police he was trying to sleep at his residence in the 800 block of Oxford at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday when he heard his bedroom door open. He assumed it was his roommate.

“He turned and looked, and it was not his housemate,” Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said.

The stranger left through the front door. Nothing was taken, police said.

The suspect is described as a 24-year-old black man, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and of medium build.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).

In a related story, a 24-year old black man walks into his house to find a 19-year old white man sleeping in his bed. Then he realized he was in the wrong house and left.

I find it quite amazing his exact age and height??? So did the victim know the intruder or are these just speculations? Was it a breaking and entering?

It's always a judgment call whether to include these descriptions. We often leave them out when they're not detailed enough to provide any real information. However, when we do that, readers often accuse us of leaving them out because the suspect is black or because the suspect is white or for some other reason. We left this one in in case someone happened to see a person of this description in the area.
