Ann Arbor man wakes to find man attempting to steal his TV
A 24-year-old Ann Arbor man woke up early Thursday to find a man attempting to steal his television, according to police.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush reported the man was sleeping until 4:20 a.m. Thursday in his home in the 700 block of East Kingsley Street. A loud noise from the window blinds woke him and he saw a man standing in his living room.
The man was attempting to disconnect his television, Bush said. The resident yelled at the intruder, who then fled through the front door.
Nothing was reported stolen and the suspect entered the home by removing a window screen, Bush said.
Police are looking for the man, who is described as between 5-feet-8 and 5-feet-10 inches tall, about 150 pounds, wearing white pants and a dark shirt.
Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).

There was no information about race in the description of the suspect. There was also no mention of him wearing a ski mask or anything else that concealed his identity.

Ann Arborites, particularly those living near downtown, really need to start considering bars on the windows. Sad commentary. Ann Arbor has a real problem with the b & e activity. Think about all those panhandlers you pass by during the day that you feel sorry for. Well, they are breaking into your homes at night/early morning. Watch those property values! Best of luck.

Actually owing and using a Taser comes with all of the obligations of a CPL and then some. You would not be "allowed" to deploy it without the same reasonable fear of death, great bodily harm or rape as any other self defense situation and you only get the one shot. For this situation as reported I'd suggest Pepper Spray with a marking dye as more "reasonable".

I know a lot of people between 5'8" & 5'10". How can you be sure it was a man if they had pants on?

ak3647, no, I didn't consider that. People have hands, necks, faces... Was he wearing a ski mask, gloves and a turtleneck to conceal it all?

Did the article say he was wearing a ski mask? No.

If he was wearing a ski mask or something else to obscure his face (as criminals have been known to do), then the victim might not have been able to identify his race. Ever consider that possibility?
