Police find suspect in Ann Arbor stabbing hiding in closet in Detroit

By Kyle Feldscher

A 21-year-old Detroit man was arrested in connection with a Sunday morning stabbing, one police are calling an attempted murder, after police found him hiding in a closet Wednesday.

Four Ann Arbor police detectives tracked down the man, whose name will be released after he is arraigned Thursday afternoon, with the assistance of two Detroit police detectives, Ann Arbor police Detective Lt. Robert Pfannes said.

“We tracked him down to Detroit and, with the assistance of the Detroit Police Department, located a resident hiding in the closet,” Pfannes said.

The man is accused of stabbing a 22-year-old Ann Arbor man in the abdomen early Sunday morning in the 400 block of South First Street, severely wounding the man. Pfannes said the 22-year-old is still in intensive care unit at the University of Michigan Hospital.

The 22-year-old entered the BP gas station at Main and William streets at 3:50 a.m. Sunday. Police responded to the gas station after the attendant called 911. The stabbing occurred in the hallway of an apartment building on South First Street, according to police.

The victim has undergone surgeries for his severe wounds.

The 21-year-old Detroit man is scheduled to be arraigned on assault with intent to murder charges at the Washtenaw County Jail Thursday afternoon.

The investigation into the incident remains open. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 SPEAK UP (773-2587).

I think we should start identifying criminals by what hospital they were born in, instead of the city that they are currently domiciled in.

My cousin was born in Germany when my uncle was in the army. But has lived in the US for 45 years. So would that make her a German if she was ever to be named in the paper?
