Ann Arbor police investigate fraud complaint at Briarwood Mall

By Lee Higgins

Two people provided false information on a credit card application to purchase nearly $1,000 in merchandise Monday at Sears in the Briarwood Mall, Ann Arbor police said.

The man and woman bought the items between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and left in a gray late model Chevrolet conversion van, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

The woman was described as black, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 275 pounds with reddish brown hair and "Julia" tattooed on the right side of her neck, Bush said.

The man was described as black, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 220 pounds, bald and between 48 and 52 years old, police said.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

@ Milton Shift, so companies should just ignore crime? Sure, they will "just write off the loss" so it really won't matter, will it? Well, it still comes off the company's bottom line (profit or loss), just as I'm sure your robbery impacted YOUR bottom line.

If Sears accepted that credit card application without verifying the information and let these two begin a shopping spree....It's still not right, but....

Big deal. I wish they would instead spend their time dealing with the muggings and break-ins around town. That company will just write off the loss (assuming they don't catch them), but when we get robbed, we really feel it. I lost $2000 to a burglary a year ago and I didn't get a press release and a nice investigation.
