Ann Arbor police investigating thefts and burglary reported over the weekend

By Kyle Feldscher

Ann Arbor police are investigating a number of thefts reported over the weekend, including one incident in which a washer and dryer were stolen from a residence.

The appliances were taken from a home in the 700 block of Oxford Road between Thursday and Saturday. A maintenance worker discovered they were missing, Lt. Renee Bush said.

The maintenance worker came to the home and found the wooden doors, walls and fire extinguishers in the residence were damaged, and the washer and dryer were stolen.

The washer was estimated to be worth $1,000, the dryer was estimated at $400 and the damage done to the walls and doors was about $1,000, Bush said. Police have no suspects.

Another theft was reported from a home in the 700 block of Packard Street. Bush said a 21-year-old Ann Arbor resident reported his laptop and iPod were stolen from his room during a party.

A partygoer at a home in the 1900 block of Geddes Avenue reported his wallet, backpack and jacket were stolen from the home between 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, police said. The 18-year-old victim said a blue North Face jacket, blue North Face backpack, the wallet and miscellaneous items in the wallet were stolen, Bush said. Police have no suspects.

A burglary in the 2000 block of Miller Avenue between 11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Friday resulted in a Playstation game system and a laptop being stolen, police said. A neighbor in a residence behind the home saw four people coming from the garage and reported it to police.

Upon arrival, police found the door to the garage open and a door to the interior of the house was forced open. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was not home at the time, but reported the stolen items when he returned, Bush said.

Police have no suspects.

1900 block of Geddes? That couldn't be Oxford student housing or the writer would have mentioned it.

More and more thefts and burglaries. People, lock up your stuff. Get better locks and if you live in an expensive home, and get an alarm system that rings to a security company. Well worth the investment if you have stuff to protect. Thugs are getting bolder and bolder, knowing that there are cutbacks to policing and jails are full. I read recently that small towns are seeing a huge spike in crime because thugs know that the police departments are small and being cut. A2 is being targeted due to some affluent residents and the student population. Students, know who is at your party. Don't let in people that you do not know.
