Post-football game revelry turned ugly in at least one location early Sunday morning.

Ann Arbor police said today they had to use pepper spray early Sunday to break up two fights that occurred after a crowd of at least 200 people gathered outside Good Time Charley's on South University Avenue, hours after the Michigan-Notre Dame football game ended at Michigan Stadium.

Officers responded at 2:40 a.m. to deal with the crowd when at least four people starting fighting and one person was knocked to the ground, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said. The person on the ground was being punched and kicked, Bush said, so an officer used the pepper spray to break up the fight.

As the officer turned around, two other people were exchanging punches, so the officer used the spray again, police said, breaking up that fight. The people involved in both fights left the area. One person was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant, but Bush said she did not know whether that person was involved in the fights.

No other arrests were made.

Both U-M and Ann Arbor police said they dealt with many incidents after the game. "Post-game our officers usually are quite busy, as they were early Sunday morning," University of Michigan police spokeswoman Diane Brown said.

Ann Arbor police investigated at least 2 assaults during the game, including a fight at Packard Pub and the assault of a man wearing a Michigan State shirt.

Ok for those who are making snide " come to Jesus " remarks if you look it appears that the guy with the sign is trying to intervene

They weren't really fighting, they were only having a "come to Jesus" meeting.

Brady Hoke told the story of how he got calmed down in his youth: After several misbehaviors reached his coach, the coach called Brady into his office and said (approximate quote): Your brother, with whom you are close, goes to this school and your family is also close to you, isn't that right? Brady answered in the affirmative. Then the coach asked him, "Then, do you think your misbehavior is the way to represent your family? -- Family Values. But of course we all wonder if these brawlers and drunks even think about their families or how to represent them - at all.

The "intellectual giants" were not out on South U at 2:40 am fighting in the street, having to be separated by pepper spray. Go Blue, great victory.

Usually these altercations have little or nothing to do with UM students. Non-students who come to campus for a big game like UM/Notre Dame are usually the ones who cause the trouble. The same thing in East Lansing.......many of those who are arrested after a post game riot are non-students. I suspect these were not students of the "Harvard of the West".

This just looks like a typical Saturday night fight, not necessarily related to football rivalries.
