Burglary on West Cross Street in Ypsilanti under investigation

Ypsilanti police are investigating a burglary reported Thursday in the 600 block of West Cross Street, a police incident log said.

Someone broke in through the window of an apartment and took $300 cash, according to the log. The incident was reported at 12:48 p.m.

  • Revised summary -- As told to the Ann Arbor Police, a student was walking along the south side of Monroe Street when an unknown male came from behind him and struck him on the left side of his head with a baseball bat. The student fell and the unknown male demanded the student's backpack. When the student hesitated, the male struck the student with the bat several times before he grabbed the backpack, jumped into the backseat of a nearby red sedan and fled.

  • As told to the Ann Arbor Police, a student was walking along the south side of Monroe Street when a red car pulled next to him. An unknown male exited the passenger side of the vehicle with a baseball bat and demanded the student's backpack. When the student hesitated, the male struck the student in the back of the head with the bat before grabbing the backpack, jumping into the car and fleeing.
