Burglary suspects caught carrying TV, guitar into woods

By Cindy Heflin

Police caught three burglary suspects Wednesday thanks to an area resident who saw something suspicious and called 911.

About 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, the resident saw three people walking in the 2100 block of Holmes Road in Ypsilanti Township carrying several items, including a television and a guitar, Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies said in a news release. The resident thought the behavior was suspicious and called 911, telling the dispatcher that the three may have gotten the items in a burglary.

Deputies responded and checked a path leading through a wooded area nearby. The deputies saw the three suspects carrying the items. The three, all males ranging in age from 16 to 19, ran when they saw deputies, but the deputies caught them after a short chase.

Deputies found stolen items in the woods and in the suspects’ pockets. The suspects, 16, 17 and 19, all live in Ypsilanti Township. The 16-year-old was released, but the two adults were held in the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment, which is expected Friday, deputies said.

A HUGE tip of the hat to the resident who alerted the police! If the investigation leads to a home invasion or B&E then we need a judge who will punish these alleged criminals as much as possible. Without Judges who do their part, cops are just a waste of money.

Good for the person that called! It is great to see these kind of people getting caught and punished. I hope they get enough time in the slammer to think about getting a job and buying their own stuff instead of stealing someone elses.

How is a 17 year old an adult as reported in the story? Also, great police response time to the 9-1-1 call; excellent job!

No, spank them. Being serious, towns used to have wipping posts, and the British colony of Singapore still uses canning, a form of flogging. Bad boys, bad boys, what ya gonna do when they come for you? So silly! Busted

Sigh...I know you like to blow smoke but for those who might misunderstand. You cannot use deadly force (brandishing is also considered deadly force) in defense of property. ONLY in defense of life or great bodily harm.
