Caller attempts to scam 84-year-old woman out of money, Ann Arbor police say

An 84-year-old woman who lives near Burns Park told Ann Arbor police that a man called her Monday night and attempted to scam her out of money.
According to police, the man told the woman she had won a prize of $2.5 million, but he needed a $250 deposit check before she could collect the money.
The woman started asking the man questions, but he insisted it wasn't a scam and gave her several phone numbers to call, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.
After the woman called the numbers and didn't get an answer, she filed a report with police, Bush said.

Don't call the police!!!! My Parents are getting them all the time from a 876 area code from Jamaica. Best part is they have had this number for 48 years and it is too be unlisted with the phone company. And even have there address. Calls them "Hey you won a prize I will come by and pick up your check for shipping your prize will arrive in three days" There is alot of numbers reported too: Annoyance Call Bureau: from the 876 area code. AAPD will not do a thing aboout this I have called twice in the issue for the safty of my Parents. Another way good way to look up these numbers are go to; www.876/scam It will tell you every number in Jamaica these jokers are using. You can do that too every number that comes in as long you get the munber with area code. Trust me you will learn alot.

Too bad she didn't tell the guy to come by and pick up a check. Then have a State cop take control. Now all she can do is call the Prisoner Advocacy hotline.

How is this woman stupid? She did the correct thing by questioning this crook and then calling the police without falling for it. Calling her stupid is ridiculous, michiganpoorboy.

I get these in my email everyday, and both sets of grandparents have gotten similar calls, for years now.
