Thief swipes hospital employee's purse, car while she's working

By John Counts

An employee at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township finished her shift Monday only to discover both her purse and vehicle were gone.

The woman told police she came to work around 6 a.m., parked in the lot and placed her purse in a room and went about her workday.

When she left around 8 p.m., both purse and vehicle were missing. She contacted police.

Soon after the report was filed, deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office found the missing vehicle behind a building in the area of Washtenaw Avenue and Golfside Drive. Contents from the woman’s purse were also recovered in the vicinity where the vehicle was found.

There are no leads on any suspects at this time, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies continue to investigate.

This day in age you really need to lock your valuables up. They have lockers and desk drawers that lock available at the hospital. If the area where she works doesn't have any place for her to lock her belongings up they really need to make that available to her and her coworkers.

Many nurses will work 12 hour shifts , not daily. My granddaughter does, and will stay over if need be if another doesn't show up on time. (and this is at Childrens in Detroit)

Really? It's a horrible thing to do, but somehow worse during the week we celebrate Nurse's and all they do for us.

Security at St Joe is really good huh??? They should all be fired for doing such a poor job. Stuff is stolen from there all the time and security can't do a thing.

Does SJMH provide employee lockers? It would be nice if they provided them for all employees that do not have an office. Even if they were just small cube lockers to store valuables.

Obviously someone knew where she put her purse at work, maybe on a regular basis. They must also have know which car was hers. It's not safe to ever have your purse left in an unlocked situation anymore at work I guess.

Vishna, that's why you lock your valuables up isn't it?

If the keys had an automatic open, they may have just clicked until a vehicle flashed. It's such a violation when someone steals like that, not to mention the headaches of having to cancel things, etc...
