Car left running is stolen from Ypsilanti Township driveway
By Lee Higgins
A car was stolen from an Ypsilanti Township driveway on Saturday morning after someone left it running to warm up, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
The red four-door 2008 Mitsubishi Galant was reported stolen in the 7400 block of Kensington Drive about 5:50 a.m., a sheriff's department e-mail alert said.
Deputies do not have any suspects.

shawnsbrain...Usually a police vehicle that is running is a K-9 car.

I assume it is legal to leave a car running and unattended. The police do it all the time!

to the one guy about ypsi not a safe place...true it has its problems but leaving a running car unlocked ANYWHERE this could happen. it is a shame someone probably going to work early in the morning had to have that happen to them. tough lesson i guess.

I wonder if it was locked...I usually leave my car running to heat up, but it's always locked, and I use keyless entry to get in. If it was an older car though, maybe they don't have keyless...maybe use a spare key?

I freeze my tail off every morning on leather seats just for this very reason. I refuse to gas it up and turn it on just to help out a random predatory thief. But I cant complain too much. I do have heated seats and they warm up pretty quickly;)

Is it a ticketible offense anywhere in Michigan/Washtenaw County to leave a vehicle running and unattended? I know some insurance companies will not cover the theft under those circumstances.
