Either she's one militant senior citizen or we really need to know a lot more. Where's the beef?

As a disinterested reader of this story and of the comments pertaining to the placement of Cash's unrelated link, I find the banterings to be totally misunderstood related to DBH's assessment of the inappropriate placement of the unrelated link. First, thank you Cash for your concern of the story that you posted the link for. It is no doubt newsworthy. Having said that, I find DBH's questioning and suggestion of why and where Cash placed the unrelated link to be absolutely valid. Why? Think of the woman who was assaulted. This is HER story, albeit a story initially lacking pertinent information. Any comments should be related to her mishap. To put a story that is totally unrelated to her misfortune under her story is to diminish the importance of her suffering, therefore her story. Please, let's think of the victim and how her story should and needs to stand on its own. I applaud DBH for his questioning the inappropriate placement of the inserted link. I also applaud Cash for her good intention of newsworthy events. Ultimately, a story should not be superceded by another. This shows disrespect to the assaulted victim.

Reporter Heather Lockwood has interviewed the manager of the store and posted a new story at http://www.annarbor.com/news/clover-computers-manager-recounts-assault-against-her-by-customer/.

Doesn't anyone get it, no further details available this morning? A 65 year old customer was arrested, I can wait until Cindy can up-date on the details.

I am confused...what was the 65 yo female arrested for? Is there a small chance she could be the "customer" referred to in the next sentence? C'mon people, you need to step up your game or my 7 yr old grandson will take over when he gets back from Florida...his texts are more informational than this story! Okay, I gotta say, Cash, thanks for trying to let people know about what happened, even if it wan't related to this article. It would be a better place to be if more people like you cared...and to the Negative Nancys...give it a rest and be careful you don't fall off your haughty perch....

With all of the "deleted comments" what is a reader to think? What happened to the "what, why, when, where, and how" of journalistic duties. Is Ann Arbor the only place where journalism comes in on such a low level of reporting or is it nationwide at this point. What was the problem, why did she assault the employee, when did this happen, where was the altercation, and how was the employee assaulted?

Thank you for this post. Annarbor.com doesnt understand that their story may leave others with a negative impression of our shop because they choose to report a story before they know the story. Why report ANYTHING at all? All it says to people is What did that employee do to that elderly woman to make her assault someone? THATS NOT GOOD FOR OUR BUSINESS. Now all my posts and everyone who supported my posts are deleted. I understand that there is freedom of speech and you have a right to report the news.. What about my rights to report what happened to me in front of witnesses? I still have not been called either. So i am asking Annarbor.com- DO NOT REPORT ANY NEWS ABOUT ME OR THE SHOP if you can't atleast let us tell our story without deleting it. You make me and the shop look questionable, and i dont appreciate it.

Hey, annarbor.com: When you post these stories with no identifying details, they're useless. And when you never come back and add identifying details to them, they stay useless.

I agree with GettingBluer. I do not see what the story in Cash's link has to do with this one. As far as I can tell, they are unrelated. Cash, why did you include the link in your comment on this story?

Wow, tempest in a teapot much? Cash, in good faith, passed along a link he thought would be helpful. I see no need for multiple posts whining that he's posted it in the wrong place. So what? Does it really matter? Cash, thanks for the link. Ignore the negative Nancy's.

The only explanation I can think of for the failures by Cash and others to appreciate the inappropriate placement of the link in the original comment by Cash on this story is that I made an unwarranted assumption, that assumption being that Cash (or AverageJoe) does not know how to submit stories on the News page. For those unfamiliar with the process, it is quite easy, actually. On the News page (either Featured Posts or Everything), above the first story, is a line of text in large bold type "Got news? Tell us." To its right is text that is in a smaller font and blue in color, "Submit a News story on AnnArbor.com." Click on the "Submit a News story on AnnArbor.com" link and away you go. You may enter links to other news stories from other sources or you may enter a story of your own making. Such a submission identifies it as a distinct story, and also gives it visibility it likely would not have had buried within a comment on an unrelated story. For those whose feelings are bruised by attempts to clarify and optimize, don't take it so personally.

I fail to understand why you (Cash) or anyone else thinks I consider the story to be unimportant. Of COURSE it's important. My point is its placement. A link to the story on the general News page would have given it more exposure, and approriate exposure, rather than including it in a comment on this story, a story that probably would be less visible than a posting on the general News page and not confusing to those (once again, see GettingBluer's comment above) who thought (reasonably so, in my opinion) that there was a connection.

DBH, I felt that it was imperative for neighbors to know that someone was on the loose and had just shot three people...at least to me it was. Some innocent neighbor might want to know about it....it could be life threatening. That was my read on the shooter being on the loose. You may see it differently which is fine.

DBH

Obviously, the shooting is more important than what sounds like a simple assault. My point (which clearly someone fails to get) is that the link to the story was inappropriately placed. It would have been correctly placed on the general News section. As a bonus, it likely would have received more visibility as well.

DBH- What I don't "get" is that this customer assault story is a sign of a slow news day, but when there is a 'death by shooting" story on all the local TV news channels AND on the Freep, I believe there is a bigger story to cover than the limited information offered on this assault by A2.com

Average Joe, I appreciate Cash (or anyone else) letting us know of important information, but the point is that including info (i.e., a link) on a story entirely unrelated to the story at hand can be confusing (see GettingBluer's comment above). Much better would be to report the story (or, as Cash did, basically just the link) to the other unrelated story felt to be important on the general news page as a Community Contributor. Get it now?

It was on the 6AM news and I thought people might want to know that a person was shot and killed and two wounded.....seemed significant crime in Ypsilanti story. I hoped we might get more information of I posted it. Someone out there has a gun and shot someone...people need to know it.

Hello- Cash is just pointing out a more up-to date ( & local) story that is a little more important than the story from A2 news. A2 news is continually behind in reporting local news.

GettingBluer

Sat, Feb 26, 2011 : 1:07 p.m.

I'm confused. Cash's link leads to an article about an unrelated triple shooting (or, at least there aren't enough details to relate it to this...his story makes no mention of a computer store or a 65 year old customer while the MLive story makes no mention of a shooting or that many people being involved or a death). I really miss the good reporting we had in California. The local newspapers and television stations are really bad.

Well, it certainly appears newsworthy, but I don't understand why you included it in a comment on this story. You could have submitted it as an independent story as a community contributor on the general news page.
