Deputies said driver tried to lure boy into car in Ypsilanti Township

By Steve Pepple

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident Thursday night in which a man tried to lure a 14-year-old Ypsilanti Township boy into a car after asking for directions.

The boy reported he was walking home in the vicinity of Whitman and Allen streets when a man in an older model, tan Jeep Cherokee asked for directions to I-94, according to a sheriff’s department summary of the incident. The boy ignored the man and continued walking.

The man returned a short time later, again asked for directions and then tried to lure the boy into the car. The boy fled unharmed, and deputies were unable to locate the vehicle after the incident was reported, according to the summary.

The driver was described as a white male, in his mid 20s, with blondish hair.

Again, stay in groups, keep someone on cell phone while walking alone, use your camera on your phone to take photo if oppertunity becomes available. give kids a whistle and tell them to blow it like crazy when threaten to bring attention, and or scare perp. away....

Smart kid. I'm glad he reacted appropriately by ignoring him and running away. What time of night did this happen?
