Driver arrested after crashing van, bringing down utility pole

By Cindy Heflin

A 44-year-old Manchester man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Tuesday night after he crashed his Dodge Caravan into a utility pole, bringing down the pole, wires and a transformer on Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Township.

The driver was not injured, but the transformer exploded and Michigan Avenue was closed for about four hours while police and firefighters waited for DTE Energy to arrive, turn off the power and clear the roadway, said Pittsfield Township Fire Chief Sean Gleason.

The crash occurred about 9:15 p.m. on Michigan Avenue near Warner Road. The driver was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. No further information was immediately available.

Four hours? And that's actually rather fast for DTE....

Great Job Pittsfield on the arrest and lodge-ing this man! Keep him there, we don't need him on the streets this Holiday weekend. I hope he has to pay the wages for DTE and Fire and the Police. I also hope this man's history is investigated in depth.
