Former Michigan football player Boubacar Cissoko waives right to preliminary exam on assault charges

By Lee Higgins

A former University of Michigan cornerback serving prison time for committing three thefts and an attempted robbery waived his right to a preliminary exam this afternoon on charges that he assaulted three Washtenaw County Jail employees in July.

Boubacar Cissoko, 22, who is charged with three counts of assault of a prison employee, made a brief appearance before 14A District Judge Richard Conlin.

Cissoko is accused of assaulting a sergeant and two officers in a housing unit July 31 at the county jail on Hogback Road in Pittsfield Township.

Conlin set a pretrial hearing for Oct. 20 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Washtenaw County Circuit Judge Archie Brown.

Cissoko was sentenced Aug. 4 to a minimum of 19 months and maximum of 15 years in prison after being convicted of assault with intent to rob while unarmed and three counts of larceny from a person.

In pleading guilty in June, Cissoko admitted to stealing money from two food deliverymen in Ann Arbor and grabbing money from a cab driver in Ypsilanti on March 13.

He also admitted to pointing a pellet gun at a cab driver and attempting to rob him in Ann Arbor on April 18, court records show.

He was kicked off the team last October after violating unspecified team rules twice in 2009.

Cissoko is currently being housed at Ryan Correctional Facility in Detroit, state Department of Corrections records show.

I do wish him all the best when he gets out. This guy was on top of the world and living large when he was a member of the U-M football team. Reminds me of the running back that OSU had a while back.

I reiterate, criminals are welcomed on campus(es) but law abiding citizens are not. 1*

"He also admitted to pointing a pellet gun at a cab driver and attempting to rob him in Ann Arbor on April 18, court records show." So he took a plea deal from the prosecutor to minimize his time in prison and may get out in a mere 12 months? Great can't wait to see this MPRI graduate back on the streets I' am confident his return to society as a law abiding productive member will be a success.
