Golf flags reported stolen in Scio Township
Seventeen golf flags were reported stolen Saturday from an 18-hole golf course in Scio Township.
Staff at The Polo Fields — Ann Arbor on Polo Fields Drive reported that the flags were taken Friday night or Saturday morning, a Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department media summary said.
Employees noticed that the flags were missing when they prepared to open the course for the day. Deputies don't have any suspects.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff's department tip line at (734) 973-7711.

Is this someone's idea of saving lives, so golfers don't get heatstroke in this weather? Or suffer dehydration while golfing? Just because Roy Halladay of the Phillies suffered some dehydration while pitching in 100-degree Chicago doesn't mean only the professionals get to engage in sports outdoors in July. I wonder if golf flags could have the name of their golf courses printed on them in order to identify where stolen ones came from; of course, if another course borrowed them, clients should be free to ask about them. Just thinking of the Argo Canoe Livery life vests I've seen being used at Gallup Park Canoe Livery, openly; I figured Argo was sharing them.

Nothing like stealing something you can't use. I'd be looking at owners of other local golf courses.

wait - theft or vandalism is justified or excused if the victim can afford the loss - what are we coming to?

Four of the first five comments either justify or excuse this act of vandalism. An interesting (and sad) commentary on society. Good Night and Good Luck

I'd be more inclined to think that they simply realize that it's most likely some teenagers (allegedly, or possibly, or whatever will keep me from getting censored) fooling around, and they believe that there are way more serious things to be concerned with. Unless the flags were stolen by an angry golf dude, then we've got a real problem. Regarding the vandalism, I've seen much worse acts of vandalism committed, yet they never made the highfalutin A2 news, at least they never made it into the new news, the one in which people get to express opinions publicly. It's just that it's the Polo Fields. I've been in some of the homes there, and I believe that the commentors you're referring to are simply expressing their distaste, that a situation like this garners any attention from the media whatsoever given the vast financial resources of those in the immediate community. How much do golf flags cost? How much is a police officer's hourly salary? What are the chances that this was done by kids? Has it caused any significant loss or distress? I agree with you, stealing is wrong. But does this situation really deserve the space it's been given for any reason other than people want to read silly stories about golf flags going missing?

I was thinking the same thing. Stealing from the supposed rich is somehow OK?

i must admit stealing these flags doesn't bother me as much as kids or adults stealing American Flags out of a cemetery. (right, I don't golf).

Big deal! Try replacing your rural mailbox several times in a season because these same (probably) bored teenagers decided this was a fun thing to do. No sympathy from me for Polo Fields needing to stick a few new flag poles in the ground. We have a mailbox in cinder blocks because we just can't be bothered anymore. Thank God we have no cows for the kids to tip over.

So much for the residents of Polo Fields isolating themselves from the unwashed masses.

I'm curious. How, exactly, have they isolated themselves from "the unwashed masses"? Good Night and Good Luck

Someone stole the pole from the hole? I find that somewhat droll.

Polo Fields? Those people are loaded, they can afford to buy some more flags. They'll get no sympathy from me.

Can they come over and steal some stuff from your back yard to compensate, then?
