By Kyle Feldscher

A thief swiped cash from a Habitat for Humanity resale shop by hiding in the store and waiting until employees left, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the burglary occurred during the overnight hours at a store operated by Habitat for Humanity at 170 Aprill Drive in Scio Township. The facility, called The ReStore, is a warehouse containing donated items, which Habitat for Humanity then sells to raise money for its work.

Deputies said the suspect hid in the store after closing on Sunday and broke into the main office. While in the office, the suspect stole a safe box, which contained cash from weekend’s worth of sales.

No suspect description was released Tuesday morning and deputies are actively investigating the incident.

Anyone with information on the burglary is encouraged to call the Wasthenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587)

Not surprised if it was one of the "voluntold" staffers forced to do community service there. Found a way to get paid.

The ReStore Warehouse had a yard sale and a big weekend sale at the warehouse last weekend... I went to it but didn't end up buying anything. Now I'm glad I didn't!

If he was so desperate, they would have helped, might have offer him or her work, I have shop there ,they are all great people they also do a lot of work behind the scene, the town should have a fund raiser for them or a bake sale, garage sale sorry to hear this.

I think the previous comments pretty sum up my and probably most others feelings about someone who could stoop this low. Of course there is going to be somebody who will say something about being desperate, but that is no excuse.

There's a special place in Hell for low lifes that would steal from a charity or church.

You're also missing a word: "which contained cash from weekend's worth of sales."
