Hopefully the police will prosecute the gun owner if he/she violated any laws. It doesn't say that the car was broken into.

A2 Comments, I just want to make sure I have your perspective right. So, if there is a car, left unlocked, and a man goes into it and takes a pair of sewing scissors and a ball point pen and proceeds to kill one person with each tool, the car owner should be prosecuted as well as the murderer? If somebody steals a bicycle pump from your unlocked garage and beats somebody with it, both the garage owner and thief should be held responsible? I just want to make sure I understand your ridiculous comment. Do I have that right?

I have one of those, but you would never see it in a car. It would take 6 marines to open or move the safe.

In answer to your first question, inanimate objects in real life cannot "do" anything on their own. This is not Disney. As to your second thought, yes a large dog having the ability to think just might have given a thief pause. Then again a thief wanting an animal for dog fighting might not have.

Wait, wait, wait! Aren't hand guns supposed to stop not cause crime? If it had been a Rottie or Mastiff instead of a gun would the thief had thought "Oh lookie what I can steal?"
