Lovers' quarrel ends in man's arrest for punching hotel employee

By Kyle Feldscher

Note: The date of the incident has been corrected.

A lovers' quarrel turned violent early Thursday morning when a man punched a hotel employee who was trying to quiet down an argument in the parking lot, police said.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police responded at 2:58 a.m. Thursday to the Residence Inn, 800 Victors Way, to investigate a report of a man punching an employee in the face.

Bush said the hotel employee approached a couple who were arguing about a romantic relationship. The man was yelling during the early morning hours and the employee asked him to quiet down.

The man took offense to this request and punched the employee on the right and left sides of his head, police said.

The employee immediately went inside to the front desk of the hotel and called police. Officers responded and arrested the 45-year-old Ann Arbor man on suspicion of assault.

The employee reported minor injuries to his head but did not require medical treatment.

on the second hand, I would have just called the police if I saw a couple arguing at such a place as a hotel. Who knows what could have been transpiring.

You can't go around hitting people. Getting near a raging person is quite balsy though.

benc- Good catch. It's the last day I'm working this week, clearly my head was one day ahead of me. I've changed that and noted it at the top.

Thank you - I found the trivializing phrase "Lover's Quarrel" tacky and inaccurate. Why not lead with "Man Arrested After Punching Hotel Employee" and then get into the background?

I wonder what the justification for the arrest was.Unless things have changed it would just be a misdemeanor simple assault and unless committed in the presence of a officer would not be arrestable ( ? )

Domestic Violence, no doubt. Cops play the DV card routinely, easy conviction and $ for the municipality.

Things have changed. Assault is a 93 day misdemeanor, meaning it need not happen in an officer's presence in order for an arrest to happen. This was changed in 2002, I believe.
