Man accused of killing Pittsfield Township woman waives extradition
A Pittsfield Township man accused of killing his girlfriend Monday at their apartment and then disposing of her body in an Indiana pond waived extradition today and will return to Michigan to face charges, authorities said.
Gregory Noack, 44, is being held at Lake County Jail in Indiana, charged with murder in the death of 45-year-old Dawn Marie Fital. The couple began dating within the past year, Pittsfield Township police said.

Noack does not have any felony convictions in Michigan, state police records show. His criminal record in the state consists of a single misdemeanor conviction in 2010 for driving with a suspended license. That charge was brought after an investigation by the Tecumseh Police Department and he was sentenced to probation.
Noack is accused of killing Fital early Monday at the Arbor Knoll apartment complex on Plum Hollow Drive, where he lived with her and her ex-husband. Investigators say Fital was bound, put in a suitcase and thrown into a retention pond in Indiana. Her body was found at 9:13 a.m. Thursday in the pond behind a Toys ‘R’ Us store off Route 30 between Hobart and Merrillville, Ind. Michigan State Police identified the body, Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner P.J. Adams said today.

Meanwhile, Pittsfield Township Police Chief Matt Harshberger said investigators continue to execute search warrants in the case, as they piece together details. Harshberger said officers had been to the apartment once before to investigate a domestic dispute, but no one was arrested.
Harshberger said investigators are working to construct the timeline and the path they believe Noack took to get to Merrillville, where he was arrested Tuesday night after someone reported him acting suspiciously behind a bank. Harshberger said police believe Noack headed west out of Ann Arbor on I-94 and made a few stops along the way.
When he was arrested, Noack had Fital’s SUV, Harshberger said. It contained some of Fital’s belongings, he said.

What I'd like to know is this and this web site does not mention it here. How did they know to look for a suitcase that had her body in it? Weird. CNN mentioned it but this on line news site does not. Interesting.

It appears there are more than a few ready to throw the "first stone". Face it, some people have a different lifestyle than you or me. The main thing is a family has lost a loved one and for that I am sympathetic for their loss. Also kudos to the concerned citizen in Indiana which brought a suspect into the eyes of police in a very short time period. Great job from both the Indiana and local investigators for bringing this man in.

This reminds me of what happened here in York Twp. and in Milan years ago. (this type of situation is very dangerous) This boyfriend slit his girlfriend's throat on Mother's Day. The boyfriend told her daughter she was sick, he left and she found her mom dead. I'm sure many in Milan remember this sad story.

Why hasn't anything been mentioned about the ex-husband other than that he lived with them? Where was he when all this was going on?

Police like to breast their cards until all evidence is in. What a weird turn of events this has turned out to be. Black eyes? Wow. Creepy.

Thanks, A2.com for updating this story and its details. I want only to point out for the sake of awareness: the person who reported Mr. Noack's suspicious activity in Indiana deserves thanks - both from law enforcement and from this community. If not for that (easily dismissed) call to police, Mr. Noack might still be an "unknown subject" in this case. This is the true value of citizen alertness and citizen participation in maintaining our society. Unknown witness, whoever you are, thank you.

Ms. V.: It takes a city, shall we say. I see no disrespect in Pika's comment. On the contrary, we are all one in our sadness about this (is what I think Pika may have intended...).
