Man accused of stealing Christmas gift in Ypsilanti arraigned on car break-in charge

By Lee Higgins

A man accused of stealing a Christmas gift Wednesday morning from a woman's car in Ypsilanti remains at the Washtenaw County Jail after being arraigned.

Kendrick Powell, 45, was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of breaking and entering in a motor vehicle, Ypsilanti police said today. He also is charged with violating parole.

Powell is being held on $5,000 bond, jail officials said.

Police say Powell stole a drill from a woman's car on North Congress Street and left a trail of footprints in the snow about 12:45 a.m.

Officers say they caught up with him at an apartment in the street's 500 block and detained him.

Police say they followed another trail of footprints from the apartment to a Dumpster, where they recovered the drill.
