Man arrested after he's found urinating in janitor's closet in U-M's West Quad

By Kyle Feldscher

A man found urinating in a janitor’s closet at the University of Michigan’s West Quadrangle dormitory Friday night was arrested for illegal entry, according to police.

University of Michigan Department of Public Safety spokesperson Diane Brown said the man followed a resident into the building just before 11:30 p.m. Friday at the dorm, 541 Thompson St.

The man refused to tell police who he was and was arrested for illegally entering the building and failing to identify himself, Brown said. The man was eventually identified and has been released pending a warrant authorization, Brown said.

Access to university residence halls is controlled by electronic key cards given to residents and there are video cameras at each building’s entrance, according to a university website.

Brown said she wasn’t sure why the man decided to urinate in the closet. In order to use most dorm bathrooms, a keycard is required.

The man was not affiliated with the university, Brown said.

Oh my, what can be said? If Brown wasn't sure, she simply wasn't.

Case in point to not letting strangers in on your card: article today about a rape in a dorm on Nth Campus.

"Brown said she wasn't sure why the man decided to urinate in the closet." Yeah! Why didn't he just use the bathroom? "In order to use most dorm bathrooms, a keycard is required." Oh... well, all he had to do was pull out his-- "The man was not affiliated with the university, Brown said." OK... think it through, Brown.

I wonder if Brown has any thoughts on why the chicken crossed the road.

Rod- When I spoke with her on the phone, Brown said she wasn't explicitly sure if that was the case in West Quad. However, I thought it was important to note what is common in most dorms.

This would be funny except that there have been many crimes committed on college campuses by unauthorized persons let in when others are opening a door. This includes rapes, robberies, and murders. There should be a penalty for letting in unauthorized people. Some schools have gone to 24 hours desks that check students in and out of buildings, instead of the electronic card or key honor system. If the guy had stabbed someone it wouldn't be so funny. This should be a warning for vigilance.

it's hard to comment on this without making some sort of urinate, poop or f##t joke. "she wasn't sure why the man decided to urinate in the closet." HAHAH... Seriously? You seriously asked her that question? What did you do, ask her... "why do you think he peed there?" I don't think anyone would have a good answer for that!

Looks like he had a going problem. On a lighter note, it is a good thing all the closets I have peed in have been in my house, other wise I would have a rap sheet as long as a...

"the man followed a resident into the building" guess the resident wasn't concerned about the safety of the other residents and their belongings.

"Brown said she wasn't sure why the man decided to urinate in the closet. In order to use most dorm bathrooms, a keycard is required." I would have thought Brown answered her own question with the second part of the quote above. Need a keycard to get in the bathroom. No keycard, find an alternate location (i.e., janitor closet). At least most janitor closets have a sink or floor drain with running water.

I'm going to guess alcohol was involved. At least he had a mop to clean up with afterwards.
