Three thefts reported Saturday at Ann Arbor Art Fair
A man was arrested Saturday after Ann Arbor police say he stole $1,200 in jewelry from a booth in one of three thefts reported that day at the Ann Arbor Art Fair.
Police said the 47-year-old man took jewelry from a booth at East William and South Main streets about 10 a.m., when a Cincinnati man staffing the booth called police and followed the thief until he was in custody. The jewelry was recovered, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.
Officers continue to investigate two other thefts. At about noon, a 47-year-old Canton woman left her shoulder bag unattended at a booth and her wallet was taken from inside her purse, Bush said. The wallet was valued at $150 and had credit cards, debit cards and other items inside, police said.
Also, about 4:45 p.m., a person approached a booth near the intersection of East Liberty and South State streets and requested a donation. As a 57-year-old Walnutport, Pa., woman staffing the booth prepared to make a donation, someone stole $850 in jewelry from the booth, police said. Bush did not have further details.
Anyone with information on the thefts can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Some of my family went to the Art Fair, didn't see any thefts. Their main concern was the dogs that were taken there, it was so hot and they felt so sorry for the pets. It was said, who in their right mind would take their dogs out in this heat for a long period of time. I wouldn't be surprised if there are (paws that were burnt from walking on the sidewalks and streets). Personally, I don't think animals should be allowed. (maybe Police and HVHS) can work on this for next year).

You hit on one of my major pet peeves. I can't believe the people who bring their dogs to such events and they are not little dogs either they are usually huge dogs that are right at face level with young children and like you said burning their paws. I like to see these people walk through the art fair with no shoes. I think the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival has a policy of "no dogs allowed" but that doesn't seem to faze these people nor does it seem like the police enforce this policy.

Has annarbor.com yet reported on: how the artists' sales were going during the fairs? the final sales figures artists may have been sharing? found out what the (estimated) crowd counts were on each day and correlated it to the heat or the heat index? If so, I've missed it. I remember getting that information when the AA News was covering the fairs, but none of AA.com's coverage (that I've seen) includes it.

It is a shame that the women left her shoulder bag unattended. People don't realize how careful you have to be at these kind of things. It is a shame that you have to think about the ugliness when attending events and such.

Too bad. But it aways seems to happen when "the circus is in town."
