Raymond Jewell, 50, was arrested Monday and arraigned Wednesday on one count each of aggravated stalking and stalking, according to court records. Saline police Detective Don Lupi said Jewell was taken into custody by the Washtenaw County Probation Department on Monday for the outstanding charges.

Jewell is currently on parole after pleading no contest to a charge of larceny from the person stemming from a July 19, 2010 incident where he stole a cell phone from a woman he used to date, Lupi said.

He had broken up with the woman shortly before the incident, and the woman told investigators he had taken the phone because he was mad, police said.

The stolen cell phone was reported after Saline police went to the 200 block of North Maple Road for a reported sexual assault. Jewell was cleared in that incident, Lupi said. While police were investigating, the woman told them about the cell phone theft.

Jewell is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond, according to jail records. He’s scheduled to return to court for a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m. May 8, records show.

According to state records, Jewell pleaded no contest to larceny from the person and was sentenced on Jan. 24, 2011. He was released from prison on Feb. 28 and placed on parole, records show.

Jewell has eight other previous convictions. He has two convictions for operating while under the influence of alcohol in 1993 and 1990, larceny from a motor vehicle in 1985, breaking and entering a building with intent to commit a crime in 1985, escaping from prison in 1979, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in 1979, third-degree criminal sexual conduct in 1979 and failing to pay child support in 2009, according to state records.
