Man hit with handgun and robbed in apartment parking lot

By Lee Higgins

A man was hit several times in the head with a handgun and robbed Wednesday night in the 2100 block of Glencoe Hills Drive, Pittsfield Township police said.

About 9:45 p.m., the Bloomfield Hills man was walking in a parking lot with a friend when a man approached, hit him repeatedly with a handgun, and took his car keys and cash, a police news release said.

The man with the gun then left the area. Police said the victim's friend was not injured.

Officers learned about the robbery after being contacted by staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where the victim was being treated for cuts to his head, the release said.

The man with the gun was described as black, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 160 pounds, 30 to 35 years of age, with a full beard. He was wearing a green and white bandana, dark green or black jacket with a hood and black pants, the release said.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 822-4958.

As stated there is more to this then just a robbery. We have a description; but no involvement of the friend? Doesn't report the crime? Maybe took the victim to the hospital? Some one answered questions at the hospital about what happened? This is NOT about reporting this is about what is gleaned forom little evidence.

It seems there are quite a few crimes like this happening in the Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti area ,along with various home invasions and burglaries. I have a feeling most of the perps in these crimes are not doing it for the first time. The pickings are easy, and the sentences are light. About all the law enforcement officers can do is react after the fact. Honest citizens have very little way to defend against this type of activity, as the criminals seem to be getting bolder and more vicious all the time.

Police Officers get more calls from hospital staff than most realize. (I heard this go down on the scanner). Hospital staff know the difference between crime and accidental injuries. I would have thought the un-injured friend would have called 911 pronto! I'm sure there will be more to the story.

"Officers learned about the robbery after being contacted by staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital" -- How odd that his friend did not promptly dial 911. It is amazing how little time it can take to report a crime. Has there been any discussion on putting cameras up around Glencoe Hills? Private security guards?

Put the heat on McKinley to get it done. A lot of their properties could be more secure. Glencoe Hills has had a negative reputation for years.
