Man who cut himself during burglary attempt told officers he was stabbed, Ypsilanti police say
Ypsilanti police say a man made up a story about being jumped and stabbed by a group of men after cutting his arm during an attempted burglary Monday.
The 44-year-old man was taken to a local hospital for treatment and charges are pending, Sgt. Kevin Dorsey said.
Officers responded at 3:51 a.m. Monday to a gas station on East Michigan Avenue after receiving a report of a possible stabbing, Dorsey said.
When officers arrived, a man with a cut on his arm claimed he was jumped by a group of men near Washington and Pearl streets and stabbed, Dorsey said.
While officers were interviewing him, other officers responded to an alarm at a bicycle shop on West Michigan Avenue, where they found a broken window, Dorsey said.
Officers followed a blood trail from the bicycle shop to the man at the gas station, Dorsey said. Nothing was taken from the shop, police said.
