Man robbed of his prescription at gunpoint in Ypsilanti

A 62-year-old man was robbed of his Oxycontin prescription at gunpoint in Ypsilanti Saturday, city police said.

The Battle Creek man told police he was in the 100 block of South Grove Street at 2:26 p.m. when a man took out a semi-automatic handgun. The robber ordered him to hand over his prescription, a police incident log said.

The robber then walked away.

Police have identified the man believed to be responsible and are looking for him, according to the log.

How did the "robber" know it was oxycontin? Seems odd to me.

thebuckstop,

I used to live a ways down the road from where this incident happened. That part of town is very run down, crime is high, and it is sometimes scary just to drive through.

It is quite possible the robber simply saw an elderly gentleman carrying a prescription bag, and just robbed him hoping he would get something "good."

Sounds pretty iffy to me how did someone know that's what he had

it's all about supply and demand...perp knew [how I don't know] that the vic had the Hillbilly Heroin...so the perp demanded the vic's supply. It does seem odd that someone would be walking around with a prescription for that, especially at that time of the morning.

The robber probably didn't know what the man had. All he knew is that the man had a prescription, I'm sure that freak didn't care what that man had.

If it were me robbing prescriptions, I would wait by the counter to hear what people were dropping off. That way I'd know what each person had and be able to size-up who had what... I wonder if the cops have looked into any possible security cameras at the pharmacy...

Maybe he was meeting the guy to sell his prescription, and things didn't go as planned.

this story reeks.. At 2 in the afternoon a person pulled a gun and robbed him of oxycontin?? Come on! Seems like a way to be able to get more instead of waiting until your scrip' is due again...and the robber walked away.....?

OxyContin is legal heroin. At Novus Detox, many of our patients started on Oxy and then went to heroin because it was cheaper.

Ummm... Why was a guy from Battle Creek walking around Michigan and Grove? I'm not blaming the victim (if he in fact is a victim) but it just seems odd. I live three blocks away and I don't ever walk down that street. Ride my bike maybe... Huh...
