Assault sends man to hospital on New Year's Eve in Ann Arbor

A 23-year-old Pontiac man was taken to the hospital after he was assaulted while walking in the area of South State Street and East William Street in Ann Arbor in the early morning hours of New Year's Day, police said.

Ann Arbor police were dispatched to the area around 3:10 a.m. The man said he was walking with other another man in the area when he was assaulted from behind, police said.

The 23-year-old man suffered a cut and a large knot on his head. Huron Valley Ambulance transported him to the University of Michigan Hospital, police said.

Police said there are two suspects in the assault. One was described as a large white man wearing a white jacket. The other was described as a white man of average build wearing a black North Face jacket.
