Man walks into residence hall room at EMU, steals computers
A man walked into an Eastern Michigan University residence hall room this morning and stole two laptops, two iPods and a cell phone, an EMU police news release said.
The incident occurred between 4:25 a.m. and 7 a.m. in Phelps Hall, the release said.
A student who lives in the room saw a man wearing a white T-shirt and thought it was his roommate. He later woke to find the items missing, according to the release.
There was no sign of forced entry, the release said.
Investigators ask anyone with information to contact the Department of Public Safety at (734) 487-1222 or at the anonymous Tip Line at (734) 487-4847.

I used to manage dorms, not at EMU, but at U-M. It was not uncommon for doors to be left unlocked while the resident went to shower/visit/party/etc. Lots of items came up missing. It's also a ploy for thieves to walk into a room and finding it occupied, say they were looking for so-and-so, then leave.

He doesn't lock his door at night in the dorm? That's not too bright. I'm sure the EMU dorm people tell everyone constantly to keep their doors locked at night and when they leave the room.
