Masked men attempt to rob Ann Arbor hotel this morning

By Lee Higgins

Three masked men — two armed with guns — attempted to rob the Four Points by Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel this morning, Ann Arbor police spokeswoman Lt. Angella Abrams said.

The men entered the lobby at 4:39 a.m., and one of them took a male guest's cell phone, Abrams said.

Another jumped over the counter and attempted to take money, while the third acted as a lookout, Abrams said.

An employee called 911, and the men left the hotel at 3200 Boardwalk Drive without taking any money, Abrams said. Police did not have detailed descriptions of the robbers. Detectives are investigating, Abrams said.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

@Pinky: "wow, you thought I was serious? I don't know if you are aware of this, but in the last few months we've had Jewelry stores, Pot Stores, and countless Banks robbed. All by what Police describe as out of towners utilizing the highways for a quick get away. So, it makes sense that perhaps maybe we start monitoring the ramps for suspicious vehicles by installing CC cameras." Really? Can you point me to where police are saying all this about the robberies? I'm not saying it's not true, but I haven't noticed such a large number of statements about that. I've seen lots of comments on AnnArbor.com assuming that criminals are coming from out of town, but no actual evidence. Why would I assume you weren't being serious? And what would you recommend looking for on those cameras? @treetowncartel: "We can't have cameras at the on and off ramps, U of M students use those too." It's not just UM students who are concerned about the possibility of widespread use of security cameras. @Kris Kime: "Gee, no description, 'eh? Let me take a guess here. They were BLACK." Really, now? Really?

Lets see, you rob a place that deals mostly in credit cards. Not the brightest bulbs in the place. Wendy's next door has more cash in it.

@"commonsense", Pinky: Why do you assume they weren't from Ann Arbor? And Pinky, that sounds like a great idea. Because shutting down the Ann Arbor freeway exits at night couldn't possibly cause any problems, and any "minor" inconveniences would certainly be justified by the fact that without freeway entrances, nighttime crime in Ann Arbor will completely cease. Not to mention, of course, how easy and cheap it will be to shut down freeway exits every night.

A motel room would have been cheaper that a jail cell.... Come on tax payers..

They stole his cell phone? As an old man who doesn't use his cell phone for anything other than talking to people on, why do these things keep getting stolen? Give me your credit card and I'll go nuts at Wal Mart for an hour before you cancel it...how much is a hot Droid really worth on the street? (That sounds dirty, but I like it so I'll leave it in there)

What, they couldn't even nab a few hypoallergenic pillows?

Or at least make it more difficult to rob ann arbor by shutting down the ann arbor exits during night hours.

Seriously?! Just get a job like everyone else - sheish! As a note however, a hotel? Really? Go big or go home. Even a 7/11 would of been a step up... *sigh*
