Medical marijuana, laptop computer stolen during South State Street burglary

By Lee Higgins

A laptop computer and an ounce of medical marijuana were stolen during a burglary Wednesday in the 900 block of South State Street, Ann Arbor police said.

Police said a 22-year-old man left his home about 10 a.m. and returned 6 hours later to find the items had been taken from his bedroom, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

It's unclear how anyone got inside. The man said he left the front door locked, but returned home find it unlocked, Bush said.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Johnnya2: In reply to your reply. I don't give a hoot if anyone is drinking on their "legally rented property". I don't have to assume what happens when a bunch of people are gathered together drinking alcohol. I know what happens after a few of the group have had a few to many. I asked a question about the location due to what I see every day working in the area. I have been asked if I know what is going on. I have no idea if there is a huge kool-aid sale or if it is an alcohol party. The appearance of it would lead anyone to think the latter. It has no effect on me or my peace and quiet. You are making assumptions at this point. If you knew how I feel about, and how much respect I "don't" have for police your assuming tone would be different. I am probably the most entertained person on earth when I read about one of them tainting the force when he or she gets caught up in their own crimes. The crimes impossible to cover with the blue wall of silence which exists very blatently in every police department. Yes I do smoke BTW hence the "cigarette in the mouth". Anything else?

Mr Wallace: I asked a question about what gives with the red cups and tables and the crowds every day. It appears to me like a huge drinking fest. I am more suprised that this is tolerated on the main drag going in to the campus. The Parents heading into the Parent orientation have asked me what goes on there. It's a pretty bad first impression for them to see that before they are dropped off a few blocks away for their orientation. BTW I socialize very well without Alcohol. I don't need artificial stimuli to get a conversation going. I know how to talk to people sober and face to face. Most of the people I see walking around below the age of 30 are glued to an I phone and "THINK" they have 700 friends. Where does a patient come in to play with my question?

Says the guy who has a cigarette in his mouth. Pretty pompous of you to assume because some people enjoy alcoholic beverages that they are bad and leave a bad impression. Why should I give to craps what a parent going to orientation thinks? Typical of caring more about "what will the neighbors think" rather than substance. I guess you want the police state of Ann Arbor to stop people from drinking on their lawfully rented property?

The crime will progress in A2, this is just the beginning.

If you like, I can post statistics from L.A., Sacramento, San Francisco, Denver, and Colorado Springs getting clean bills of health over the baseless assertion that dispensaries increase crime. But how about if we look at Michigan's crime rate vs that of California for the same time period? That's a great idea. Here we go: Michigan: 1996 population 9,594,000 crime index:……. 5,117.5 violent crime:…….. 635.5 property crime:.. 4,482.2 . . 2009 population: 9,969,727 crime index:….… 3,334.8… -34.84% violent crime:….…. 497.0... -21.79% property crime:.. 2,837.8… -36.69% <a href="http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/micrime.htm" rel='nofollow'>http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/micrime.htm</a> I see you folks don't mind violent crime. Wow, California's population increased almost 16% between 1996 and 2009. That 3.92% increase in Michigan's population sure doesn't support the idea that people avoided moving to California with its CUA over Michigan with your draconian, morally bankrupt penalties for drugs law violations. A sneak peek of 2010 says that there was a subsequent decline in Michigan's population of 0.86% according to the US Census whittling down Michigan's population to an increase of 3.02% between 1996 and 2009. In contrast even more people adopted California as home in 2010 making their population increase +16.86% for the 1996-2010 time period. Please notice that you have to go back to 1965 to find Michigan with a lower overall crime rate than was posted in 2009. California posted a crime rate reduction 20% better than the national average. Take California and it's 12% of the US population and the crime rate decrease in California is even more impressive. Hey, if you've actually got a basis for the argument that medicinal cannabis causes crime, I'm all ears.

Well you know, somebody just whispered in my ear and told me that crime rates have gone down significantly nationwide in the 1996-2009 time frame, and that even with those decreases California could still be faring worse, perhaps because of passing the CUA. Fair enough, let's take a look, shall we? For the US as a whole: . . 1996 population: 265,284,000 crime index:…….. 5,087.6 violent crime:….….. 636.6 property crime:… 4,451.0 . . 2009 population: 307,006,550 crime index:……. 3,465.5… -31.88% violent crime:…….. 429.4… -32.55% property crime:… 3,036.1… -31.79% <a href="http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm" rel='nofollow'>http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm</a>

Does the burglar know that it is a crime to steal? I feel bad for the victim, now he cann't medicate himself.

@Chris 8 I will say that I agree with you about the victim being targeted by a partygoer. Many college kids simply walk around the campus looking for house parties. It would be extremely easy for a &quot;stranger&quot; to stake out the place without looking suspicious. As for your question, &quot; What are these get togethers all about?&quot; Its a party. Thats what college kids do. Is that not obvious?

I can not help asking if this is one of those houses that I pass every day just south of Packard on the east side of State St with the tables and red plastic cups all over the place? To me it looks as if there is an alcohol fest going on there every day. If you live in one of these houses or nearby what do you expect to happen? I know I have seen crowds of people in front of this area all hours of the day. All these people can not be living in these houses. Someone was probably observing what was going on in the area, and the victim was more then likely targeted. What I find suprising is that this kind of activity is even allowed to take place in front of these houses. It makes the whole area look run down and intimidating to even walk by. What gives here? Am I wrong? Can anyone answer what these get togethers are all about? I'm very curious about this.

Well you're probably not familiar with the practice of socializing with your friends. Go out and make a few and give it a try. BTW it's highly unlikely that there's any substantive drinking going on at a patient's home.
