LAWNET officers seize more than 3 pounds of suspected marijuana during raid in Ann Arbor

By Lee Higgins

Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team officers raided a home on Nixon Road in Ann Arbor Thursday night, seizing at least 3 pounds of what they believe to be marijuana, some pills and an undisclosed amount of cash, Det. Lt. Phil Menna said.

Officers executed a search warrant about 9 p.m., but no one was home at the time, Menna said.

The man who is under investigation is a former owner of an Ann Arbor-area medical marijuana clinic, Menna said. So far, no charges have been filed, police said.

The man declined to comment this morning.

Lawnet has nothing better to do than mess up peoples lives, they get off on that type of stuff. There kids, smoke more marijuana than anybody. They should be out here trying to catch rapist, and murders'. They live to hurt and humiliate people.

Any liquor, cigarettes, percocets, found? These could be the same people that will smoke on UofM property next year also. Good thing they were caught now before things got real serious. What a waste of police manpower.

Danger. Danger. Big shipment of "medicine" intercepted by the bad guys. All the "patients" around town will soon be dropping like flies now that they can't get their life-giving "medicine". Quick! Call Chef Ra! This is a "medical" emergency!

only the ignorant would compare Marijuana with Cocaine.Yes it causes deaths in mexico. All the more reasons to legalize it,tax it,and sell it...The bad guys are out of business and our cash strapped governments add some funds.

The bad guys will sell it for less on the corner. All that legalize, tax, sell crap doesn't change anything. Do that and the thugs know where to go and steal it to sell it for less on the corner. Legalization won't do anything but create more users.

Marijuana is part of the culture and beauty of being an Ann Arborite. How can we prosecute the poor man who was once the owner of a medical marijuana establishment. Don't you all know he is only distributing marijuana for the betterment of society? Marijuana is as natural as the air we breathe and is good for you too. It makes us a calmer more peaceful society. We all want peace don't we? The only thing that should be done is that when you smoke it you should collect all of the smoke so you aren't contributing to global warming and the needless death of polar bears and walruses. Party on.........

In one of the articles about marijuana dispenseries it stated that the marijuana sold for $280 per ounce. That means the mere 3 pounds they found was worth $13,440. I don't know anyone who makes their own beer or wine but seriously doubt they have that kind of self made inventory.

The only reason there is illegal activity around MJ is because it is illegal! If it were legalized it wouldn't involve illegal activity. duh! I know lots of folks who make beer and wine. They are probably in your neighborhood, too. There isn't a lot of traffic because they aren't the only place to get it.

@TRUBLU- the reason for the killings in Mexico is the illegality of the drugs, NOT the drug use. No prohibition, no drug killings. I agree with the majority here, waste of our tax dollars going after MJ users/growers. Especially 3 pounds! Gimme a break.

I would agree with this but the mob trade included moving legal products (like tobacco and alcohol). If you lift the prohibition ththere will still be dealers on the corner selling and fighting over turf and shooting up the place trying to steal from one another.

The reporter failed to mention that this is a residentual neighborhood and next to a daycare. Some neighbors don't want all the traffic and attention it brings. Move out to the country or business district to do it then. Fair enough.

"Marijuana and cocaine are social drugs, for recreation. Drug use is a victimless crime: users aren't criminals just because they support a multi-billion dollar enterprise involving mass shootings, bribing police and government officials, murdering journalists, etc. Don't believe that: just take a vacation in a Mexican border town!" - Hah! What a disgraceful charade it is put out by irresponsible, amoral drug users - mostly American citizens. American drug users cost lives and billions of dollars AND threaten our society AND our government and police. There's nothing "innocent" about that at all. Don't believe that: just take a vacation in a Mexican border town. Drugs of any kind for other than medical purposes and obtained by regulated legal source are dangerous to users and everyone else.

The failed Prohibition Industrial (War On Drugs) Complex which feeds the failed Prison Industrial Complex. Tax dollars at waste!! The "dope peddlers" are Big Pharma and these guys are their hired hands. They are peddling a line of nonsense to the dopes that continue this failure!!

It's my understanding that alot of dispensary owners have been dealing with out of state sources, and not dealing with local Michigan patients/caregivers, which is highly illegal. I wonder if this is somehow related?

It is absolutely a waste of time and money to continue these raids. Thank goodness no one was hurt. We need TRUE legalization.

What a complet and utter waste of time. Why do we prosecute people for Marijuana. We are the dumbest inhabitants of this planet.

Well the "new" administration building still has a balance due. Prosecution is the new taxation of the sos.

I agree. Go after those in our society who do not follow the rules. They probably don't pay taxes anyway! I would rather pay off that balance with their money than those of us who follow the law. Think about it. They are the ones who are going to be using the building the most when they go to court time after time over the years.

I love that word "suspected". You'd think a seasoned LAWNET officer would know reefer when he sees it. (Readers, please save your well-intentioned replies, I'm well-aware why it's called "suspected" and why suspects are called "persons of interest".)

Actually, 'person of interest' and 'suspect' are two different things....

I'm all in support of medical clinics, but you have to follow the letter of the law. 3lbs. is way over the limit, unless there were several others in the house that were also legal to posses. Another concern would be, is this cannabis considered 'useable'? I'm sure LAWNET would suggest it is. However, LAWNET has very little credability, so I would be inclined to believe the accused.

What a waste of police resources. I guess cops need to spend a lot of time proving their tough so they can get more toys from the feds.
