4 vehicle break-ins reported in Scio Township neighborhood

By John Counts

Thieves targeted four cars in the same Scio Township neighborhood on Saturday night, police said.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Lafayette and Quebec streets on Sunday to take reports for the four incidents that police assume are related, Sgt. Geoff Fox said.

All of the vehicles were unlocked and parked in driveways of the homes.

"It looks like the case of someone going through the neighborhood," Fox said.

Thieves, he added, will take "anything they can stuff in their pocket or put in a bag" in cases like this.

Numerous items were reported stolen, including MP3 players, sunglasses, a radar detector and other miscellaneous items, according to police.

There are no suspects at this time.

Last I checked it is not a felony to leave your cars and homes unlocked. It is, however, a felony to enter a car or home without an invitation.

Does this mean the houses are no longer being broken into since we rarely hear about it when it does happen? Wondering if it's time for a Neighborhood Watch to be organized?!

When residents leave their cars unlocked as an open invitation to theft, the police and or sheriff's departments should charge them for the time spent to investigate their foolishness.

Your comment is ridiculous. Cars are sometimes left unlocked by accident. It doesn't matter anyway. There is no law requiring that cars must be locked. Wait until you are a victim. Hope you get the same lack of empathy!

4 vehicle break-ins All of the vehicles were unlocked Is it really a break-in if the doors are not locked? Cars come with locks and keys. I wonder why.

Wasn't there a burglary in that neighborhood a month or so ago?

I live in this neighborhood and park my car outside each night. I'm pretty good about locking it but this has me concerned. Of course, all they'll get from me is a couple of old Steely Dan CD's. How does one get a comment pulled from a topic this mild?

lol if someone said "well they should lock their doors" I guarantee that their comment would get pulled for blaming the victim. THAT'S HOW THEY ROLL 'ROUND HERE....

I saw the comments, I have no idea why they were pulled, unless saying people should lock their cars is "blaming the victim"?

All of the vehicles were unlocked and parked in driveways of the homes. "It looks like the case of someone going through the neighborhood," Fox said. Correction: It looks like a number of people who will probably lock everything up from now on.

It is never good to blame the victim.
