Musician assaulted after chasing down thief, Ypsilanti police say

By Lee Higgins

A clarinet player was assaulted Thursday night after he chased down a man who stole money from his clarinet case in front of The Screamin' Eagle Pub on West Cross Street, Ypsilanti police said.

The 20-year-old man was playing the instrument about 1:10 a.m. when a man grabbed the money and ran west on the street, a police incident log said.

The player chased the man, who punched him in the face when he caught up with him, the log said. Two other men were also involved.

The man who stole the money was described as black, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, in his 20s, with braids in his hair, according to the log. He was wearing a red shirt.

The player could not give a description of the other men because his glasses fell off during the chase.

Anyone with information can call police at (734) 483-9510.
